Cistus incanus, a powerful antioxidant
Cistus incanus or Cistus incanus in Latin is nowadays a very famous herb.
Unfortunately, its only permitted health claim that we are allowed to make is:
Antioxidant
Fortunately, in folk tradition this herb is very well known and famous and you can look up more information about its effects in herbaria.
Ingredients.
Cistus is a medium sized evergreen shrub with highly aromatic and beautifully coloured flowers, for which it also got its other name as the Rock Rose or also the Mediterranean Rose, implying that this herb is mostly found in the Mediterranean region. Its use is known from history, especially from Persian traditional medicine, when this plant was considered the most valuable source of natural medicine known to traditional medicine at the time. In Greece, Cist tea has a long tradition.
It is a truly hardy plant. The seeds can wait in the soil for a suitable time and the shrub itself is perfectly adapted to cope with extreme heat.
Of course, the dried leaves and flowers are also valuable. They can easily be made into an infusion and tincture. The decoction has a pale yellow colour and a rather bitter taste, so we recommend, for example, sweetening with honey. You don't have to limit yourself in sipping, so enjoy all that cistus has to offer.
In 1999, Cistus was rightly awarded the 'European Medicinal Plant of the Year' award for its effects.
Interesting fact about cistus:
Cistus - The Rock Rose is a self-firing plant that releases a type of resin called labdanum under the influence of ambient high temperatures. It has a low flammability threshold and can ignite at air temperatures as low as 30 degrees. This is what happens with the Rock Rose - the resin on it starts to burn at this temperature. The seeds of the plant sprinkled on the ground will not burn. On the contrary, the high temperature helps to crack their hard shells, and the mineral-rich soil helps them to germinate and grow as a result of the fire. It is the plant that reproduces fastest after forest fires.
Dosage.
To make a stronger decoction, boil one tablespoon in 1l of water for 2 minutes and then leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Drink the decoction throughout the day.
Cistus herbal tea has a pleasant, pungent aromatic taste. It can be drunk throughout the day and for a long time. It is not diuretic, so you can drink it during the night and when you feel thirsty.
